An hour east of the city, granite mountains climb straight out of the sea. The Jufeng route uses the park shuttle and a cable car to reach roughly 700 metres, then loops through rock towers; the Taiqing route centres on Taiqing Palace, a Taoist temple sitting where the mountain drops into the water; Yangkou in the north has a short cable car up to Lion Peak and a scramble through rock caves. It's too big for one day, so pick one or two areas. Looking down over boulders to the sea and islands is a different league from the city lookouts.
