It started under the communist regime, when someone painted John Lennon's face here after his death; the police whitewashed it, it reappeared the next day, and the wall became a symbol of free expression. Today a long stretch of wall under the trees is caked in layers of graffiti, stickers and peace slogans, and Lennon's face survives only in traces. Reviews split down the middle between 'smaller than expected' and 'best photo backdrop in town'. Lovers' padlocks hang off the little bridge next to it, and a few steps on are the Čertovka mill stream and Kampa Island.
