An hour out from Phuket's east-coast piers, limestone islands start stacking up on the horizon and everyone on deck reaches for a phone. The star is Khao Phing Kan, renamed in everyone's mind by the 1974 Bond film The Man with the Golden Gun: its name means 'leaning hills', and two huge slabs of rock really do slump against each other. Just offshore stands Ko Tapu, the rock spike that's thin at the waterline and fat at the top. In the afternoon you sit in a yellow inflatable canoe while a guide paddles you under overhangs and into cave mouths. Most tours bundle lunch on board, park fees and hotel transfers.
