This mansion in a quiet western neighbourhood holds more Monet than any other museum in the world. "Impression, Sunrise", the painting that gave Impressionism its name, hangs here. Downstairs the late water-lily paintings run along whole walls. The upper floors are filled with Empire-period furniture and medieval illuminated manuscripts. Lines are far shorter than at the Orsay, so you can stand in front of a canvas for as long as you like.
