The restaurant opened upstairs in Gare de Lyon for the 1900 Exposition Universelle. Climb the stairs, push the door, and the hall is all gold leaf and painted ceilings, with more than forty paintings of French cities and landscapes. It was listed as a historic monument in 1972 and turns up in films such as La Femme Nikita. The food is classic French, lamb roasts and the like, and prices include a hefty charge for the room.
