From Ebisubashi at Dotonbori the arcade roof runs about 600 metres north without a break. Uniqlo, GU, ABC-Mart and drugstore after drugstore line both sides, with Daimaru and Parco in the middle, which is why shopping days here start and end on this street. Shops have traded on this street since the Edo period, and a few old tea and kimono shops still hold out between the chains. The roof makes it the obvious place to be in a downpour or under midsummer sun.
