Address
The central square at the south end of Avenue Jean Médecin, between the old town and the Jardin Albert 1er

Think of it as Nice's living room. Arcaded buildings in deep red surround a chequerboard of black and white paving. At the south end, a naked Apollo stands over the Fontaine du Soleil, and above the square seven crouching figures sit on top of tall poles; after dark they light up from inside and slowly change colour. Trams glide straight across the middle, and in February the Carnival parades take over. Head for the old town, the beach or the shops and you'll cross it sooner or later.
