Antibes old town (Picasso Museum in the Château Grimaldi) and the Croisette in Cannes, 10 minutes apart by train

One train line, two towns. Antibes is an old port with its sea walls still standing; up on the ramparts, the Château Grimaldi holds the work Picasso made there when it was his studio in 1946. Below, some of the biggest yachts on the Riviera sit in the harbour, and the old-town morning market is worth a look. Ten minutes further down the line is Cannes: a photo on the red-carpet steps of the Palais des Festivals, a stroll along the palm-and-palace-hotel Croisette, and a climb to the old quarter of Le Suquet to watch the harbour at the end of the day.
