- Address
- Ferries leave from Castle Clinton in Battery Park at the tip of Manhattan (also from Liberty State Park, New Jersey); the statue stands on Liberty Island
From Manhattan the green statue is a speck; it grows as the ferry closes in, and from the foot of it on Liberty Island the torch looks impossibly far up. Climb to the pedestal and Lower Manhattan's towers line up across the water. The same ticket continues to Ellis Island, where the great hall that processed millions of immigrants in the early 1900s still stands, along with piles of their battered trunks. Seeing both islands takes half a day.
