Barber Domenico Parisi opened this cafe on MacDougal Street in 1927. Push the door and you meet dark wood, old paintings and an espresso machine dated 1902 leaning on the back wall. Order a cappuccino at one of the tight tables and nobody rushes you out. The story that it brought cappuccino to America is repeated everywhere, though sources disagree on the year.
