Hokke-ji
法華寺
A nunnery temple holding an 11-faced Kannon
- Address
- 882 Hokkeji-cho, Nara
This nunnery is said to have been founded by Empress Komyo on the site of her father's residence. The main image, an 11-faced Kannon and national treasure, is normally represented by a stand-in figure in front of the shrine; the original is shown during special openings in spring, early summer and autumn. The well-kept garden flowers with the seasons, and the mood feels a world away from the deer park.
