JR Central's railway museum opens with a dark hall where the superconducting maglev that hit 581 km/h, a steam locomotive and a Series 0 shinkansen stand side by side under spotlights. There are 39 real cars, and you can climb inside most of them. The shinkansen driving simulator costs extra and goes first-come, first-served, and reviews joke that dads queue harder than their kids. The diorama, billed as Japan's largest, cycles from day to night and is hard to walk away from.
