Address
West of the centre, at the end of a long canal

A tree-lined canal runs dead straight, swans drifting on it, and at the end a long white palace stretches out sideways. This was the Wittelsbachs' summer residence and Ludwig II's birthplace. Inside, the Stone Hall rises three storeys under a ceiling fresco, and Ludwig I's Gallery of Beauties hangs portraits of 36 women he admired. Next door, the Marstallmuseum lines up gilded coaches and sleighs. The park is free, so plenty of people come just to walk.
