Bishop Ambrose founded this church in the 4th century, and Milanese people are fonder of it than of the Duomo. You cross a brick-arched atrium and the street noise just drops away at the door. The saint's remains lie beneath the high altar, itself a 9th-century piece of gold and silver work. Entry is free, so you can stand under the old vaults as long as you like.
