The lanes around Via Fiori Chiari, Via Madonnina, Via Solferino and Via Brera

Fifteen minutes' walk north of the Duomo the streets narrow and turn to cobbles. Via Fiori Chiari is all ochre walls, green shutters and planters spilling off balconies, with small galleries, vintage shops and gelato counters tucked into every corner. As the light drops, restaurants roll tables out into the lane and the aperitivo glasses come out. It's the place to wander for an hour or two before or after the Brera gallery.
