A grey granite building like a Greek temple sits on a rise, and from the top of its steps St Kilda Road runs dead straight to the city. In the inner sanctuary lies the Stone of Remembrance, designed so that at 11am on 11 November a shaft of sunlight through the roof falls across its inscription.
