This is where the sultans' palace stood when Malé was a royal capital. Most of the palace is gone, and what's left of the grounds is a small park of tropical trees and a fountain. The National Museum inside, a new building funded by China in 2010, holds royal thrones and palanquins, armour and weapons, old coins and lacquerware. It also had pre-Islamic Buddhist pieces, but many were smashed in 2012.
