Local islands in the Maldives don't sell alcohol, so Maafushi drinks on the water: boats licensed to serve sit in the lagoon, and Kaani Princess, run by Kaani Hotels, is the best known. A free boat runs you out in a few minutes; downstairs there's a TV and sofas, upstairs a sun deck with loungers, plus beer and Italian-fusion food. Watching the island from the deck at sunset is how a lot of Maafushi evenings end.
