Senado Square
議事亭前地(Largo do Senado)
Wavy cobbles and pastel façades: where old-town walks begin
- Hours
- Open-air square, always open
- Tickets
- Free
- Address
- Halfway along Avenida de Almeida Ribeiro (San Ma Lo), across from the old Leal Senado building
Black-and-white Portuguese paving rolls across the square in waves, flanked by two- and three-storey buildings in yellow, pink and pale green. At one end stands the yellow Church of St Dominic, and across the road the white Leal Senado building. From here an uphill lane runs to the Ruins of St Paul's, lined with jerky and egg-tart shops pushing free samples at you. Rather than snapping a photo and moving on, the fun is wandering up that lane slowly.
