Over 120 acres hold a Japanese garden, a Chinese garden and a desert garden of towering cacti, each a separate world. The Japanese garden has an arched bridge and a historic house; the desert garden looks like another planet. The art museum shows British portraits and European paintings. The library exhibition halls are under construction, so plan around the gardens. It earns half a day away from central LA.
