Over nearly a thousand years this fortress has been a palace, a prison, an execution site and the Royal Mint. The big draw is the Crown Jewels: coronation crowns and sceptres you glide past on a moving walkway. Yeoman Warders (Beefeaters) in red-and-black uniforms lead free tours full of grim execution stories. Step out of the walls and Tower Bridge is right there, so riverside photos and a walk across the bridge fit into the same visit.
