Address
From Largo do Chiado by Praça Luís de Camões north through Bairro Alto to the São Pedro de Alcântara viewpoint

Chiado has been the haunt of writers and dandies since the 19th century. Outside Café A Brasileira, open since 1905, a bronze Fernando Pessoa sits at a table, and a few steps on is Bertrand, trading since 1732 and billed as the world's oldest bookshop still running. Over the hill to the north is Bairro Alto: quiet lanes and laundry lines by day, and after 10pm every alley fills with people drinking in the street outside tiny bars. At its edge, the São Pedro de Alcântara viewpoint looks straight across at the castle.
