A sightseeing train with open-sided carriages runs slowly up the Hozu gorge from Torokko Saga to Kameoka in about 25 minutes. It hugs the cliffs just above the river, and every time it comes out of a tunnel the water and maple woods open up in front of you. The popular combo is to return by the Hozugawa river boat, a wooden boat poled by boatmen, down the same river: about 16 km and two hours through rapids and rocks, landing near Togetsukyo in Arashiyama.
