Ninenzaka & Sannenzaka
二寧坂(二年坂)・産寧坂(三年坂)
Stone-stepped lanes of wooden shops below a pagoda
- Hours
- Streets always open; shops roughly 9am–6pm
- Address
- Masuya-cho, Higashiyama-ku, the slopes below Kiyomizu-dera
The stepped slopes down from Kiyomizu-dera, Sannenzaka leading into Ninenzaka, are lined with old wooden shopfronts. Matcha ice cream, yuba, Kyoto sweets and pottery shops line the way, and an hour slips by browsing. The Starbucks here, where you drink your coffee on tatami, is famous in its own right. The spot where the Yasaka pagoda (Hokan-ji) rises between the rooftops is the classic shot.
