Yudofu, hot tofu, began as teahouse food outside Nanzenji's gate, and this is one of the places that kept it going. Domestic-soybean tofu warms in kombu water and goes into a house dipping sauce: simple, but eaten in a big estate with a garden, which is half the appeal. The lightest Hana course (¥3,850) lets you choose yudofu or fresh yuba you lift yourself, plus small dishes, a simmered plate, dengaku tofu skewers, vegetable tempura and rice. The study hall is a registered cultural property.
