Keep climbing past the Ijinkan houses and a red torii and a small hall appear. It is a shrine to the god of learning, so the ema boards fill up in exam season. The real prize is behind you: turn around and the rooftops fall away to the port and the sea. A few steps off the Ijinkan crowds, it is surprisingly quiet.
