Open since 1948, just after the war, this is the grand old name in Kobe coffee. The north-German half-timbered building is a landmark on the way up to the Kitano foreign houses, so the camera comes out first. With 164 seats over three floors you'll usually get in, and it opens at 8:30. The branch-only handmade pudding (¥900) and hotcake set (¥1,600) are the favourites.
