A red-brick British consul's residence from the 1870s sits on the hill above the harbour mouth. Through its arched verandas you see Cijin and the passing ships one way and the open sea at Sizihwan the other. Most people come for the moment the sun drops into the Taiwan Strait and the terrace turns orange. Below the hill, Sizihwan is a small beach inside the National Sun Yat-sen University campus, where students line the breakwater at sunset.
