Once a smelly industrial channel, the river was cleaned up and is now where Kaohsiung goes for an after-dinner walk. After dark every bridge lights up and little solar-powered boats putter up and down. Cafés and open-air seating line the banks, and down at the mouth you get Pier-2 and the Music Center glowing together. This is very much a night place.
