The Gornergrat railway station is right across from Zermatt station

Cross the road from Zermatt station to the Gornergrat railway and the crooked Matterhorn grows bigger in the window as you climb. At the top, glaciers ring the viewpoint with the Matterhorn front and centre. On the way down, hop off near Riffelberg and walk to the Riffelsee, where on a still day the peak hangs upside down in the water. The village is car-free apart from little electric carts, so you end up wandering Bahnhofstrasse past the souvenir shops.
