A white memorial floats directly above the USS Arizona, sunk with 1,177 crew in the attack of 7 December 1941. After a short film, a Navy boat carries you across, and you look down at the rusting hull and the drops of oil that still rise from it. The visitor centre and galleries are free, so you can stop there, or make a full day of it with the Battleship Missouri and the aviation museum. It's a place to be quiet for a while, not a day out.
