Bishop Museum

Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum

Hawaii's biggest museum, koa hall and planetarium

Hours
Daily 9am-5pm (last check-in 4pm)
Address
1525 Bernice St in Kalihi, about 15 minutes by car from Waikiki

Built in 1889 to hold the treasures of the Hawaiian royal family, the museum is best known for Hawaiian Hall, a three-story space with a whale skeleton hanging overhead. Each floor tells a different chapter, from gods and chiefs to voyaging. Another building holds a planetarium that shows how Polynesian navigators crossed the ocean by the stars. It sits across town from Waikiki, so plan on half a day.
