A plain little room on a residential street, about ten tables and walls full of family photos. Small dishes arrive one by one: kalua pig steamed in an underground oven, laulau wrapped in taro leaves, pipikaula short ribs dried then fried. Grey taro poi is bland on its own but evens out the salty meats. It won a James Beard America's Classics award in 2000.
