The museum is the angular building clad in black glass on the seafront: by day the façade reflects sky and water, by night light seeps out from inside. Exhibits start with the bay's marine life and geology, move through prehistoric finds, ceramics and national treasures, and end with the history of coal mining in Quang Ninh, Vietnam's biggest coalfield. Tour groups often call it the 'coal museum'. It makes a solid rainy-day or cancelled-cruise fallback.
