Opened in 1914, it's one of Japan's oldest French-style formal gardens, stepping down the hillside in terraces with a central fountain framed by the ridge of Mt Myojogatake. There's a greenhouse full of tropical flowers and a crafts house for glass and pottery workshops. Nothing earth-shattering, but it's the right place for a half-hour breather before or after the cable car, and the Hakone Freepass gets you in free.
