A flower park on the top of an island ten minutes from the city by ferry. Whole hillsides are planted, so rapeseed in spring and cosmos in autumn seem to pour down towards the sea, with Hakata Bay and the city skyline beyond. Inside there's a little lane of retro-style shops, play areas and a few animals, so it's an easy half day with kids. The sea views from the ferry deck are part of the fun. You do need to line up ferry and bus times, though, so set aside a good half day.
