Address: Five more minutes up the steps from Piazzale Michelangelo

The crowds of Piazzale Michelangelo stay behind at the foot of the steps. Five minutes higher, a striped green-and-white marble front appears with the whole city spread below it. Inside, the apse mosaic and the inlaid marble floor float in dim light. In the evening the monks sing Gregorian chant, low under the nave roof. Entry is free.
