A few steps down from the crowds at Piazzale Michelangelo and the noise drops away. The hillside is cut into terraces of rose beds and olive trees, with contemporary sculpture dotted around. The Japanese garden near the entrance came from Florence's sister city Kyoto. There are benches with a long view of the Duomo, and entry is free.
