A neoclassical building on the hill between Old and New Town. The permanent collection is free, with Raeburn's Skating Minister, Monet and Titian under one roof. Deep red walls packed with paintings lead on to Scottish landscapes. Afterwards, the lawn outside is a good spot to sit and look up at the castle.
