Opened in 1843, Tivoli is one of the oldest amusement parks in the world. The rides are modest; the point is what happens after dark, when thousands of bulbs come on over the lake and trees and the Chinese pagoda and Moorish palace glow. Right now (2 October to 1 November) it's Halloween season, with thousands of pumpkins and scarecrows everywhere; from 13 November to 3 January the whole park turns into a Christmas market under lights. The 1914 wooden roller coaster, Rutschebanen, still has a brakeman riding on every train.
