Step under the glass roof and your glasses fog up. It's one of the biggest park conservatories in the country, designed in 1908 by landscape architect Jens Jensen as 'landscape art under glass'. The Palm House is crammed with palms up to the roof, and the Fern Room, with water trickling between rocks, feels like a prehistoric forest. Come in the dead of winter, when it's below freezing outside, and the warm damp air feels like a gift. It's 15 minutes from downtown on the Green Line.
