Step under the big trees and the city noise just stops. At the bottom of a low hill, the mouths of brick tunnels about 700 years old open into the slope. Inside, the air is cool, the walls are furred with moss, and every dead end has a small Buddha sitting among candles. An old chedi stands on the hill above the tunnels, and the trees around carry little signs with short Buddhist sayings. Down by the pond, families feed the fish and turtles. Baan Kang Wat is five minutes away by car, so most people pair the two.
