Budget

Address
120 m northwest of the Maoye Department Store entrance, Jinjiang

Chuanchuan began on 1980s Chengdu street corners: one big mala pot, everything threaded on skewers. Yulin Chuanchuan Xiang started on Yulin Road, where the original still runs; this is its Chunxi Road branch. Order a broth, fill a tray from the chilled display, and pay by counting sticks on the way out. Bamboo sticks are ¥1 and metal ones ¥5, so you pay only for what you eat. Cooking times are posted by each ingredient, so first-timers don't get lost.
