At the end of the Chunxi Road pedestrian street a giant panda sculpture clings to the wall of the IFS mall, and everyone stands beneath it craning for a photo. Across the road, Taikoo Li threads designer boutiques and cafes through low buildings under black-tiled roofs, with Daci Temple, founded in the Tang dynasty, still standing in the middle. It's where young Chengdu comes dressed up, so just people-watching on an evening walk is fun. It's also where most visitors do their panda-souvenir shopping.
