Wade in at Panagsama Beach, swim a few metres out to where the reef drops away, and there's a silver cloud of sardines hanging over the wall. Every time tens of thousands of them turn as one the light flashes, and when you swim through, the wall of fish parts around you. With luck you'll also see a sea turtle grazing on seagrass or rising for air nearby. You don't even need a boat; it all happens straight off the beach. Southern tours usually pair it with Kawasan canyoneering for a half day each.
