Quinta Avenida, Playa del Carmen
Quinta Avenida (5ª Avenida), Playa del Carmen
A pedestrian street beside the sea: walk, eat, hit the beach
- Hours
- Street always open; most shops run morning to midnight
- Tickets
- Free
- Address
- A pedestrian street running north–south parallel to the beach; its south end is Parque Fundadores with the Portal Maya sculpture, near the Cozumel ferry pier
With no cars allowed, restaurants, bars, clothes shops and ice-cream parlours line the street for several kilometres. Turn down any side street and you're on the beach, so you swim by day and stroll by night as live music spills out of doorways. At the south end, Parque Fundadores has the big bronze ring sculpture Portal Maya, and sometimes voladores spinning down from their pole. A good day out from Cancún when you want to walk a real town instead of a resort.
