Great Sphinx of Giza
تمثال أبو الهول بالجيزة
A lion's body, a king's face, and pyramids stacked behind it
- Hours
- Same as the plateau (daily 7am–5pm, winter to 4pm)
- Tickets
- Included in the plateau ticket (foreigners EGP 700)
- Address
- Below the plateau on its east side, next to Khafre's Valley Temple, right by the Sphinx gate (Nazlet el-Samman side)
It's carved out of a single outcrop of bedrock, more than 70 m long. You come out between the granite pillars of Khafre's Valley Temple and the face appears side-on, the missing nose plain to see. From the viewing terrace along its flank, Khafre's pyramid lines up behind it for that famous shot. It faces east, and visitors argue over whether morning or afternoon light treats it better, so pass by twice if you can.
