Mosque-Madrasa of Sultan Hassan

مسجد ومدرسة السلطان حسن

A Mamluk portal that makes you crane your neck

Hours
9am–5pm
Address
On Salah al-Din Square, across from the Citadel

Built in the mid-14th century, its entrance is so tall you crane your neck just to read it. Inside, four vaulted iwans open off a courtyard that is open to the sky. Standing by the central fountain and looking up at the patterned ceilings is half the visit. By sheer scale it is on every shortlist of Cairo's finest mosques.
