A black blade of a cornice, cut through with lettering, hangs over an elegant Andrássy út facade, and behind it sits the heaviest story in the city. The Arrow Cross used the address in the 1940s, and the communist secret police took it over afterwards. The rooms run through film, props and rebuilt offices, then a slow lift ride drops you into the real basement cells and the execution room. Nobody calls it a fun afternoon, but it explains a lot about Budapest.
