Rows of grey concrete slabs of different heights cover a site the size of several football pitches. At the edges they're knee-high and look harmless; walk in and the ground dips, the slabs rise over your head and the city noise drops away. People appear in a side aisle and vanish again, which is oddly unsettling. Underneath, the information centre shows letters, diaries and names of victims, turning that vague feeling into individual stories.
